Paul Jolly Photography Chapter 23-1
Taking the shot
If you wish to take 3D photographs with any movable subjects: people, trees in a breeze; then
you will need two cameras. Set them identically and fix the distance between them using a dual
mount bar; ensure the bar is horizontal (best to use a tripod). Trigger them simultaneously
and this will produce a pair of images ready for processing.
To use a single camera take a photograph of the scene then move horizontally and take a second
photograph. Ensure the camera is horizontal and the movement is horizontal. With a single camera
you cannot have moving items in the image as they will be in different locations in the combined
picture and confuse the viewer taking away the illusion of three dimensions.
The wider the separation of the exposures the more pronounced the 3D effect, after about
300 mm (12 inches) the effect becomes a strain on the viewer as this separation is not normal.
