Mirror lock-up

For the ultimate sharpness we set the camera to lift the mirror in the SLR camera well before taking the photograph. This is done to let the vibrations, caused by the mirror moving, settle down before triggering the shutter. A good tripod and the use of a remote shutter is required before mirror lock-up makes much of a difference.
